  10. A joint investment of more than $45 million from federal, provincial, and local governments will support an increased supply of safe and reliable drinking water, effective wastewater treatment, and cleaner soil for communities across Saskatchewan.

The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, announced a $714,500 investment in Fortune Minerals Limited (Fortune Minerals) to enhance the production of cobalt sulphate and bismuth ingot products from the company’s planned mine in the Northwest Territories and refinery in Alberta to increase the supply of critical battery metals that are essential to the development of a domestic electric vehicle value chain. This will be achieved through a pilot-scale hydrometallurgical program designed to optimize processing conditions while ensuring that residues from the process are stable for safe disposal.

  22. Communities across the province will receive significant upgrades to their drinking water and wastewater infrastructure after a combined investment of more than $98 million from the federal and provincial governments, and local partners.
  23. The federal government is investing more than $41.2 million through the Green Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) to support 14 drinking water and wastewater projects across British Columbia. The Government of British Columbia is investing more than $31.6 million in these projects and local partners are contributing a combined $25.1 million and are responsible for any additional costs.

Thousands of people living in Comox Valley and the surrounding area will benefit from sewer system upgrades to reduce the risks associated with rising sea levels and climate change, and help ensure the community can continue to count on clean waterways after a combined investment of over $13.3 million from the federal, provincial, and municipal governments.
  25. The Great Lakes – St. Lawrence Seaway transportation system extends 3,700 kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean into the Great Lakes. This binational transportation corridor serves two Canadian provinces, eight U.S. states, and over 100 ports and commercial docks that connect to over 40 provincial and interstate highways, and 30 railway lines. In 2022, 36.3 million tonnes of cargo valued at $16.7 billion transited the Seaway on their way to and from key Canadian and American ports. Cargo traffic reached 37.6 million tonnes in 2023.
  26. Government of Canada investments support clean, inclusive and long-term economic growth
  27. The Government of Canada is investing over $4 million in 13 projects to help modernize businesses in Central P.E.I. The Province of P.E.I. is also contributing almost $500,000 toward 3 of the 13 projects.
  28. Two communities in Colchester County will see their capacity to manage sewage increase after a combined investment of $5,885,000 from the federal and provincial governments along with the Municipality of the County of Colchester and the Village of Bible Hill.

  30. The Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) Program experienced a surge in demand due to the post-pandemic economy, low unemployment rates, and record-high job vacancy rates in 2022. To address those labour shortages, the Program adopted a series of policy changes. With changing labour market conditions and declining job vacancies, the Government is adjusting the Temporary Foreign Worker Program to ensure the program continues to only be used in cases where there are no workers here in Canada that can fill the necessary role.
  31. Residents in Lillooet Lake Estates and their homes will be better protected from dangerous landslides after a combined investment of over $7.7 million from the federal and provincial governments and the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District.
